The state of Goa has got a rich culture and heritage. Since the state was a Portuguese colony until 1962, Goa is still carrying the old day's culture. In recent time, Goa is famous for tis Indo-Portuguese culture and architecture. Church building was one of the main occupations of the Portuguese in the earlier days. The Portuguese forced upon Christianity during their stay here. They kept destroying various Temples and built Churches in those places. Because of that fact, you would find several Churches in Goa. Church of Our Lady of Miracles:

Located at 2 km east of main Mapusa barket, Church of Our Lady of Miracles, also known as Milagres Church, is one of the popular Churches of Goa. Built in 1594, the Church of Our Lady of Miracles survived an attack from the retreating Portuguese forces in 1961 and was almost got destroyed in a fire. Dedicated to Our Lady of Miracles, the church was built in the same site of a Hindu temple that was destroyed by the Portuguese earlier.

Reis Magos Church:

Built in 1555, Reis Magos Church is run by the Franciscans and was dedicated to St. Jerome. The church became a learning center for the priests soon after its inception. The inside of the church went through a renovation work in 1771. In 1774, the towers were added to the architecture.

The Church of Our Lady of the Rock of France:

The Church of Our Lady of the Rock of France is located at Brittona on the banks of the Mandovi river. The church was built by the grateful seamen who considered Our Lady as the force who saved them from the Plague.

Church and Convent of St. Monica:

The Church and Convent of St. Monica was built in 1627. Located very close to the Chapel of St. Anthony, the Church and Convent of St. Monica is among the popular Churches of Goa. The rules of the monastery was compiled by the Archbishop.

Church of Our Lady of the Rosary:

The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary is one of the oldest Churches of Goa. Located on the top of the western side of the Holy hill or Monte Santo, the church is said to be located at exactly the same site where Alfonso de Albuquerque guided his troops to victory in 1510.
